Ryan faced his fair share of design challenges this past year. It comes with the territory, but some projects are a bigger challenge than others.
One of the biggest challenges was the design and manufacturing of two custom game tables for clients in Seattle, Washington.
Both clients are avid miniature war gamers, a hobby Ryan was already somewhat familiar with, but designing these custom tables was no easy task.
Ryan hit the drawing board, sketching and re-sketching plans. As with most projects, he consulted with the clients over details and desires. What particular war games would they be playing? What other games might be played on the table? What interior design motif would fit best in their home? Did their wives prefer traditional or more contemporary interior design?
The first game table he built in alder and cherry with a gaming surface of 4’ x 6’, and exterior dimensions of 7’ x 5’.
The second gaming table Ryan designed and built has a more contemporary look and was built with cherry. This table has a 4’ x 6’ interior playing surface and exterior dimensions of 5’ x 7’. This table was built specifically for the game War Machine.
While Ryan had many other design challenges over the past year, these table rate very close to the top of the list, but they also represent two projects that Ryan is most proud of this year.
It is important to Ryan that his furniture is both beautiful and functional. Knowing that these tables will provide these two clients with a superior gaming experience for years to come made the challenge of building them well worth it.
