We like the finer things in life. Who doesn’t? The great thing about Colorado is that you can enjoy the finer things in life while dressed in jeans because our laid back state affords us a kind of comfortable luxury.
A stay at the Brown Palace Hotel & Spa is one of the little luxuries we occasionally afford ourselves. This historic hotel will always have a special place in our hearts because we held our wedding after party in Ship Tavern, and stayed at the hotel that night as well.
The Brown Palace is truly one-of-a-kind, and whether you arrive in jeans and a bolo tie or an Armani suit, the hotel staff treats you with the utmost respect. It’s sort of like being king/queen for the day, everyone holding doors open for you and handing you flutes of champagne.
We recently had the opportunity to experience luxury lodging in Steamboat Springs at a Moving Mountains Chalet property. While kicking back in our 2800 square foot penthouse at the top of One Steamboat Place, we decided the good life is pretty darn good.
When it comes to food, if we want to splurge on an amazing steak dinner, accompanied by a $15 martini, Morton’s The Steakhouse in downtown Denver fits the bill. There are many great steakhouses in Colorado, but there’s something about Morton’s that really special. Part of it is their first-class service. They have a level of service, like the Brown Palace, that’s getting harder and harder to find.
The truth is, when you indulge in the finer things in life, you get better service. I think we’ve all become accustomed to lousy service; people not looking us in the eye when we’re talking to them because their checking their phone, for instance.
Perhaps excellent customer service is a bit of a relic, only to be found at top rated restaurants and high end hotels, but it shouldn’t be, and it’s alive and well in our small business. We think more small businesses should work to bring back an old fashion level of customer service; courtesy, promptness and smiles.
After all, who doesn’t appreciate a smile? Especially when it’s accompanied by a nice filet mignon.
